Earlier this year, Glaslough Villa FC faced a challenge that threatened the very heart of our club — our home ground.
The perimeter fence that had long marked the boundary of our pitch had seen better days. We knew it needed attention. Over the years, we had patched it with pallets and whatever we could get our hands on. It wasn’t perfect, but it held. That is, until February, when Storm Eowyn swept through and knocked it all down.
The damage wasn’t just cosmetic. With the fence gone, cattle from neighbouring fields began to wander onto our pitch, and more worryingly, we were no longer compliant with FAI governance or basic health and safety standards. The loss of our fence meant the loss of the ability to host children’s football camps, and without urgent action, our club's future activities were at risk.
Without hesitation, the club rallied. We launched a GoFundMe and hit the streets with a Flag Day in Monaghan Town. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, near and far, we raised nearly €3,500. That money, combined with an incredible amount of time, talent, and muscle, brought the fence back to life.
Since the fence was repaired, we’ve already felt the benefits, most recently with the successful completion of the first of our two planned kids' summer camps. With the pitch once again safe, we were proud to welcome dozens of young players for a brilliant week of football, fun, and learning. The camp ran smoothly from start to finish, and it was a real joy to see the pitch alive again with energy, laughter, and the future of our club in action.

This didn’t happen by accident. It happened because people stepped up.
- Davy Lawrence, John Kehoe, and Stevie Mulligan were first on the scene, stripping and stacking the damaged fence line.
- Nipper Murphy and Paul McCarey provided the machinery and expertise to clear and level the ground at no cost.
- Jacqui Lawrence and Johnny McEvoy organised the Flag Day, pounding pavements and rattling buckets.
- Paul Oliphant and Stevie Mulligan ran the GoFundMe, gathering donations.
- When the site was ready, David Stirrat and his fencing crew moved in, driving 75 posts, 20 strainers, and 200 metres of wire into the soil — a top-class professional job.
- Seán McEvoy brought it all together visually, painting the entire fence line and helping us restore pride in the boundary fence.
It was, and is, a truly collective effort.

Sponsor a Post — Be Part of the Story
Now, we invite you to be part of this incredible chapter in our club’s history.
We're launching “Sponsor a Post”. This is a chance for you, your family, your business, or a loved one to be immortalised in the very structure that protects and surrounds our pitch.
There are 75 brand-new posts lining our ground. For €40, you can sponsor one of these posts and have a custom engraved plaque placed on it in perpetuity.
You choose the inscription. Maybe it’s your family name, a memorial for a loved one, a message to future generations, or a simple expression of your love for Glaslough Villa FC.
This is more than a fundraiser. It’s a statement. A way of saying “We were here. We helped. We belong.”
Why It Matters
Every child who runs out onto that pitch…
Every supporter who cheers from the sideline…
Every memory we make together…
Every supporter who cheers from the sideline…
Every memory we make together…
They’ll all be framed by the fence you helped rebuild.
This is your opportunity to cement your connection to Glaslough Villa for years to come. Whether you’re a former player, a proud parent, a club legend, or simply someone who believes in the power of local sport, we invite you to sponsor a post and stand with us, literally and symbolically.
Let’s continue building something that lasts. Not just fences, but community.
